Great, just great
Murphy's law strikes again, and this time it struck close to home. Kathy and I, thirsting for some good times in Seattle, had made plans to go out tomorrow night to hit some of the clubs in Pioneer Square. Apparently, Kathy's foot had other plans, because she is now hobbling around and can't even make it to the gym tonight. We'll see how it turns out, especially since she's going to have to use that foot to walk around the concert on Saturday.

And thou, too, shall be organized
Sometimes, in this crazy game called life, you just want things to be pretty, neat, and organized. One such time is when the Democratic candidate for President seems to be failing in his attempt to oust W. Sigh. Not sure whether it just seems like that because all the reports say so, or whether I'm just pessimistic. I'll be packed and ready to leave for Canada the evening of November 1st.
Anyway, in an attempt to make sense out of the bloody chaos that is life in general, I am in the midst of this massive organizational yen, to the point that I was roaming the desk organizer aisle at OfficeDepot today. Did you know that Christopher Lowell has organizational decor stuff? Weird. I restrained myself admirably, though, and just bought stuff that I needed: binder dividers (for my recipe folder, which my mom gave me and that I am expanding and organizing) and a new notebook for my food journal. Yes, I keep a food journal. Yes, I know that this, like my cleaning/organizing mission, is indicative of my desire to exert control over a world filled with chaos. But guess what? It works.
I'm trying to find another 5k to run sometime in November. If anybody knows a good race within 30 miles of T-town, let me know. Speaking of T-town, there's a Magoo's reunion on this Saturday night. Yep. Meghan & Vince are getting together the UPS kids for a little "remember-when-they-took-my-fake-ID" party at everyone's favorite UPS dive bar. We'll have some of the cool Seattle group down, too. Call me if you need details. Show up if you don't.
empirewolf should be coming up for a visit sometime soon, halleluah! I need some quality Heather time, hint hint.
And alas, I should get back to what has turned into a busy busy day at work.

Too good This month is so awesome, despite getting sick on the first weekend (yes, I attended Bumbershoot without being able to speak, or worse, sing along with the bands). Kathy and I still have the Maroon 5 concert (they're performing at the Puyallup fair, rather charmingly listed as "Pallyup" on their website) and Endfest to attend. Endfest is boasting an interesting collection of acts: Muse, Franz Ferdinand, X, Metric, Presidents of the United States of America, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and the Violent Femmes. Should be an excellent day!
We're heading up to the Wallingford area tonight for Vince's birthday party, which is being combined with Clint's birthday so that the purchase of a keg of Stella won't seem over the top. Oh wait...it still does seem over the top. Clint, Greg, and the other roommates have apparently gone all out, and are 1) making some sort of projection screen on which to show movies and 2) are using 150 yards of white spandex to decorate (Greg's idea). While I am all for decorations, I still am not sure how one uses white spandex to decorate. Looking forward to finding out, though!
To make life even better, Arleen had this little tidbit posted on her profile: http://www.craigslist.org/about/best/sfo/40691636.html . Hilarious! Maybe I shouldn't have checked it out at work, though.

CSI junkie I am currently hanging out, watching CSI and basically being a slob while Kathy and her mom have dinner with some family members. I did manage to get some chores done today but basically failed to make it to the gym or call anyone. Oops.
Life is pretty good lately. I've been going out a lot, making out with a lot of guys, and working hard. I'm looking forward to Bumbershoot, Endfest, and Maroon 5, and we're going to be booking our trip to Vegas soon. Yay!
But in the meantime, I need to workout. Getting chunky :(

Drip drip drip The ceiling is leaking. Thankfully, it's the office ceiling and not the one at the house. Yes, it is raining, and NO, IT DOESN'T RAIN ALL THE TIME IN THE NORTHWEST. This is the first that it has rained here in a quite a while, and it's wonderful despite the whole leak thing.
Drip. Drip. Two feet to the right and it would be dripping on my desk. I'm a lucky girl.

There will be no more running through fields... Well, I might still run through fields, but I won't be running through them with Steph anymore. She is cruelly ditching us for the easy life back in CA...ok, so it's actually that she's going home so that she can save some money for her Europe trip, but STILL! How dare ANYONE leave the great Northwest? I think that I should be in charge of where and when people move. All of my friends should live in Portland, Olympia, Tacoma, and Seattle from now on. My lazy ass might not make it to Portland often enough but a two hour drive isn't too awful (although life would be better with my Heather close by--hint, hint). Lynsi, Rebecca, Brett, Cheryl, Marcella and others should move IMMEDIATELY to my area.
I'm going out in Seattle tonight with some cool people, including one new cool person named Carey. Yay Carey! We're going to try out the Bohemian down in Pioneer Square--hey, Steph is leaving us to go to Palo Alto, we need cheering up--and possibly some other bars in the area. This will be my first late-night excursion in Pioneer Square since that one night at the DownUnder Club. I know, it's horrifying that I've been only going out in Fremont but hey, Fremont IS the "center of the universe."
Despite the rush of energy that comes with the thought of going to a new club tonight (and the fact that two shots of espresso just hit my system) I am still wallowing in sadness because Stephanie Wilson is leaving. :( Moving away from here is not cool. It's a crime in my mind, people.

Daily realities Why do Americans have to work so much? Productivity studies have shown that individuals are not effective after a certain number of hours, yet Americans work weeks longer every year than all other industrialized nations. I think this is part of the reason that the American divorce rate is as high as it is.
Can you tell that I'm at work right now?
OHHHHHHHHHHHH by the way my birthday party ROCKED! When combined, the collective power of Kathy, Brittany, and my birthdays apparently creates a partying force to be reckoned with. Except for one small incident that resulted in a guy getting banned from the 1516, it was good times all around. Thanks to everyone who showed up, and to everyone who called to say "Happy Birthday!" too.

Four month anniversary I've been at my current job for four months now. Considering the brevity of my former temp positions, it feels like forever!
I got to see Heather Easterly two weekends ago, it was cool. Also got to see Andi V and participate in the craziness that was her 25th birthday (it involved a dive bar located at the Travelodge). Portland is a fun town and I definitely need to spend more time visiting it!
Well, I should do some more work stuff. I need to make sure that everything is in good order because I leave for my mini-vacation (is packing up stuff at the house your parents are selling considered a vacation??) on Wednesday!

[Link] | So, it's spring break, and I have written 1 1/2 pages out of approximately 6-10 that should be written by Friday. Troubling.
I'm hoping that if I buckle down, all will be well. I just need to grab the ol' laptop and hit the road, a kind of French paper excursion. I could call it the "act of desperation" tour. I totally have senioritis/writer's block. But I truly believe that given enough caffeine and enough fattening food, I could write Pulitzer-worthy material. Or at least something good enough to catch Oprah's eye...
Am I going to reach my goal of falling asleep before 2:30am tonight? Who knows! But more importantly, will I wake up before noon tomorrow (err...today)? Those of you who love me should call and wake me up at 10am. By the way, it is completely FREAKY to be one of two people in the house at night. Late night showers suddenly seem more like a possible scene from Psycho. Damn my overactive imagination! It manages to freak me out but my livejournal posts are nowhere near as interesting as the crazy shit I think about all the time!

[Link] | My last Sapphire Ball came and went tonight, and it was fun.
It was weird because I was stag at a sorority dance for the first time ever; the music was okay, but not thrilling; everybody was pretty well-dressed & looked good, which was really great for everyone's self-esteem.
In other news, I am tired and I have cut my hair. More later when I can form complete, non-boring sentences. That day may be a long way off, considering that this next week is going to blow goats.

[Link] | I was driving today, and I started laughing crazily because the sky was still bright past 5:30pm.
I can't believe how much the season affects my mood now; I think it's from living in the Northwest for 4 years...
Ah, Kappa. It's crazy about how fast things change. Most of us older girls are constantly reminiscing about how much crazy stuff we used to pull with women who are now alums--god, some of them are even married! It is my greatest wish in life that somebody remembers me the way that I remember them. Graduation coming up makes me so grateful to have been a part of the house, even though sometimes we get on each others' cases.
Tonight was the 3 hour Mortar Board meeting from hell. It's apparent that college is where you either learn to tolerate or despise bureaucracy! It's also nice to know that other people are open to expediting certain processes, even during membership selection. By the way, don't apply to an honor society if you do not have a working knowledge of English grammar! You will be belittled by everyone who scores your ap (sorry, but it is true!).
Since I am incredibly sore from my workout yesterday, I just chilled with Lisa after the meeting and watched Caddyshack. How many big movie soundtrack hit songs did Kenny Loggins have, anyway??? (Danger Zone from Top Gun comes to mind).
K, enough with the procrastination. I get to read some international econ schma now--yay!

[Link] | I love the rush that comes when I've been sick and I get to that day, you know the one when everything starts to feel like you're going to 100% again? It totally makes me appreciate things a lot more. Plus, campus just looked pretty today. A couple things are blooming with pretty pink flowers and I paused to savor the color.
My Onion horoscope, however, is strangely foreboding and scary: Cancer: There will be no monuments or memorials to mark your tragic and violent death during next week's bloody revolution in floor coverings.
In other news, I picked a bad day for the stomach flu yesterday. My classes suddenly had an abundance of information and handouts. Damn the fates! Why didn't I get sick on Tuesday or some other worthless day?
Because I love the Onion: Pisces: An unusual series of events will teach you to never underestimate the abilities of a master Ninja or pastry chef. Aquarius: Newton's laws say that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, proving he knew nothing about women. (as for the last one, I am true that he knew nothing about women. If men knew things about women, they would also know how to get rid of smog and end the drug war).

The typical bored-at-home entry I'm so bored that I actually sat and watched snow fall off trees for a longer period of time than I'd care to admit.
I had forgotten what it's like to be a prisoner of the weather until, after 3 hours of heavy snow, the power went out. There's nothing like being in a power outage in a place where you no longer live; suddenly, you realize that you no longer know where the flashlights are, whether there are still emergency candles, and that your father is out of matches. Yep, that's right: we had 2 matches left IN THE ENTIRE HOUSE. Life here is like a comedy of errors at times...
I'm still very bored though.
